I consider myself an artist in the Modern Impressionist style. I strive for a realistic yet painterly approach to my art. Working in acrylics, I paint landscapes, cityscapes, still life, house and buildings, pet portraits and vehicles around the Piedmont area of western North Carolina.
I recently was awarded the Winner of Best Plein Air Acrylic for April 2022 in Plein Air Salon competition for my painting “Late Summer Afternoon”. The judge for the comnpetition was award winning artist Camille Przewodek. I also recieved the “Best of Show” award at the Arts Mount Holly Plein Air Paint Out in September 2022, a 3 day plein air painting festival in Mount Holly NC. The awards were judged by NC’s own award winning plein air painter Jeremy Sams.
Initially starting out drawing and painting as a young adult, I then trained in commercial art attending Pinellas Vocational Technical Institute of Florida and finally settled into fine art painting before relocating to North Carolina, where I am currently a member of the Southern Arts Society inc. and the North Carolina Plein Air Painters.
I rely on my commercial art training to accurately draw the foundation of my paintings. Then with few, but distinctive, brushstrokes and the illusion of details, I try to capture the feeling and atmosphere of a scene, the first impressions that drew me to it. I find great satisfaction in creating paintings of everyday life and familiar objects. Prominent light/shadow patterns, reflections, natural colors, a good sense of depth and strong drawing are essential ingredients to my paintings. My plein air paintings usually are done in one sitting though on a rare occasion two sitiings are available for me to complete a painting.
My studio commissions are mainly painted from client supplied photos and consist of Pet Portraits, Car/Vehicle and Building/House /School etc. I use the same approach and techniques for studio commissions as my plein air work.
